Caroline (Caz) & Tom obviously lead very busy lives in London and coming down to Bath for their pre-wedding shoot was going to be challenging. So skipping work early on a summers afternoon, they caught the 4pm from Paddington and arrived about 90 minutes later at Bath Spa station.
This was the first time we’d met face-to-face after talking on the phone and via email, and they were as nice in real-life as they had sounded on the phone.
Bath is familiar to Caz as she often visited when she lived in Wiltshire.
I‘d scouted along the quiet side of the River Avon before they arrived, picking out some nice spots by the Kennet and Avon canal lock. But as we headed for the first location, we discovered that half of Bath were now charging towards us. I know its not easy to be photographed at the best of times. But with strangers bustling past? I don’t think so.
So, plan B. Keep walking and talking and hope the throngs would thin.
Eventually they did and with it Caz & Tom relaxed. A friendly local who cares for some of the riverboats saw us doing the shoot and offered the use of the exterior of one of the boats. Some people can be so kind and generous.
Tom had recently damaged his shoulder when a pedestrian had charged out in front of his push-bike in Kensington, so Caz was under strict orders not to exacerbate his condition! Just to keep things even, recently Caz too, had come a cropper on her bike when another cyclist cut-her-up, catching her front wheel. I wondered if I was being told subliminally that they were accident prone?
Still, they both ended the shoot in one piece and we had some glorious evening sun to boot.
Look out for their wedding photos later next month…
