Ellie & Jason Pre-shoot, Stroud, Gloucestershire

Wedding Pre-shoot GloucestershireIts not often you get to shoot in a rarely seen location so we were really pleased when Ellie and Jason asked for their pre-shoot in an old mill.

The Stroud valleys used to boast upward of 150 active mills in its heyday, but nowadays there are virtually only a handful left by comparison. Many are now re-purposed, but this one hasn’t yet…

But the space and architecture was superb and we hope you like the photos.

The full set can be seen HERE, but you’ll need the password, which is obvious if you know the couple.

Wedding – Gemma & Kelvin, Kingsholm Stadium

GKW ThumbGemma & Kelvin were married at the church of St Paul and St Stephen on the Stroud Road in Gloucester. The weather forecast had slowly deteriorated during the week and Kelvin was apprehensive that the rain would not hold off…

Gemma arrived in a beautifully maintained 1938 Triumph Vitesse – one of only 4 of its type left in the world.

Afterward the ceremony, their reception and wedding breakfast was held at the home of rugby in Gloucester, the Kingsholm Stadium.

Before we arrived there however, Gemma & Kelvin had located a quiet park where they had asked their immediate family to join them for some of the more classical family group photographs – the photos which become the historical documents of the future.

Once we had completed these and the rest of the family left the park, we spent a pleasant 20 minutes or so getting the more personal photographs and the couple, the park and the car did not disappoint. As the owner of the Triumph observed, Gemma and the car gave us an Audrey Hepburn moment.

Minutes after we got to the Kingsholm grounds and finished a couple of shots on the turf, the weather finally broke and chucked it down.  But by then it didn’t matter.

Emily & Simon – Putney, London

We met Emily & Simon the day after Simon got back from Japan on business and we thought he managed to concentrate on all the wedding photography questions Emily had exceptionally well considering the jet-lag he was suffering.

Emily had been a bridesmaid at a wedding we had photographed in Devon almost two years ago, so it was lovely to have her ask us to shoot her and Simons wedding day later this year.

Their pre-shoot was arranged to be in Putney, London just a day after all the snow melted. But it was still very cold and a grey continuous cloud covered the sky. Non-the-less, we bravely faced the elements and here are a few shots from the shoot. Thank goodness the Dukes Head did a decent hot-chocolate to thaw us out afterward!

Wedding – Nikki & Wayne – The Wardrobe Salisbury

Nikki & Wayne were married at St Thomas’ church in Salisbury in late July and their reception was held in the garden at The Wardrobe, the historic home of the Wiltshire & Berkshire infantry regiments. This building is also known as The Rifles (Berkshire and Wiltshire) Museum.

We first met Nikki & Wayne when they drove from their then home in Portsmouth all the way to Bristol to discuss their wedding day photography.

Theirs was to be a wedding where there would be lots of children and lots of walking. The Wardrobe is about a quarter of a mile from St Thomas’ church and the plans were for Nikki and her father to arrive at the The Wardrobe and then walk through the town to the church.

After the ceremony, everyone would then walk back through the town centre, passing under the gated entrance to the old city.

I’d already enjoyed a nice set of blisters from all the walking we did in Winchester when they had their pre-wedding shoot, so was expecting to be possibly hospitalised by the end of the day. Especially since we’d shot a wedding at Ellenborough Park in Cheltenham just the day before.

Back to Nikki. She wore a 1940’s or 50’s vintage dress. Vintage is something Nikki & Wayne appreciate – Nikki’s wedding ring is a vintage one too. Wayne wore a waistcoated suit with a lighter coloured edging trim.

The 10 bridesmaids included Nikki’s 3 sisters who each wore a mocha dress with contrasting pale blue sash and the remaining 7 little bridesmaids wore ivory dresses. And there were a handful of pageboys looking very smart as well.

Wayne’s two best friends were his Bestmen and they did a remarkable double-act speech where they demonstrated Wayne’s dancing technique ‘the too-hot-to-touch radiator’ move – and generally kept Wayne in his place.

Nikki’s mum had made the 5-tier cake and the two iced birds were instantly recognisable as Nikki & Wayne.

The children were each given a personal treasure map and set off to hunt down treasure chests full of edible goodies. The Wardrobe has an enormous Copper Beech tree which is somewhere around 200 years old according to Alistair, the curator of the museum. Trees, of courese, have to be climbed… even if you’re a bridesmaid in a pretty dress!

The reception was held in a large marquee between the tree and the river. The Wardrobe really is an idyllic wedding photography location.

The weather finally became summer this weekend and needless to say, there are a lot of photographs – so please enjoy a look at a few below;
